Building on the success we had in the summer exams, we aim to ensure young people gain a deep understanding of the subject using concrete, visual and abstract teaching strategies. Every young person learns differently, and the curriculum is adapted for each young person dependant on their starting point with the school.
Mathematics is a language that requires regular practice and the skills learnt are frequently readdressed in the curriculum. It is essential that the building blocks of mathematics are secure for all our young people so that their confidence in the subject can progress. We aim to develop young people’s ability to solve problems in a variety of contexts and to apply their skills to tackle unfamiliar problems in new situations.
Understanding notation and language in mathematics is crucial to enable our young people to think and communicate mathematically. Mathematics is not only a core subject within the school, but it is also an essential subject for all our lives in the twenty-first century.
