Martin Rafferty (‘Raff’) provided 3 high quality and bespoke days of fishing workshops for Warrior, Nelson, and Illustrious Classes. These involved classroom-based activities, looking at literacy, science and maths skills whilst learning about different fish in the waters around us. Classes then got to go outside and tried casting with fishing rods and catching different types of fish with magnets. They also were learning the basic skills required for fishing. During the afternoon, they went to a local river and got to use nets to catch fish (sticklebacks) and other invertebrates whilst exploring the local environment and wildlife.
The students adored it as did the staff. Further plans for fishing days and events with Raff are already in the pipeline and this alongside £2500 from the Angling Trust creating very exciting opportunities for our students. Raff is from Reel Education and more can be found out from – Reel Education – Angling Trust
