Home News & Events Storm Agnes Didn’t Ruin Fishing Trip for Young People
Six young people and four adult staff were all unaffected from the first of the years storms when fishing off Hayling Island and had a great time, even catching some fish!
The day started off early for Shane (DT Teacher) and his son, Josh who set up everything ready for the young people to arrive and be able to start fishing straight away. A huge thanks to Josh, who not only gave up a day’s work for the young people but also allowed much of his fishing equipment to be used. Each of the students had a rod to use and were shown how to “bait up” and “cast off” before they started fishing.
Much of this aims of this activity was looking to give an opportunity to young people which they might not have had previously, but also to provide a mental time and space away from the business and challenges of life. As mentioned, the weather was very kind and even though it was little windy, it was dry, and fun was had by all.
Until after lunch, the only thing being caught was seaweed, but then one of the young people caught two fish. The first being a small Black Bream and the second a Bass. Both were carefully photographed before returning to the sea safely.
Thank you to all people involved, especially Joel (for so much driving) who helped it make it such an enjoyable and successful day.
